Seize the Moment
Karynthia A.G. Phillips
The devil is always trying to stop the body of Christ by immobilizing our efforts as we purpose to do the will of God. You have to allow the Holy Spirit to stand up in you to take a step of faith and move forward in pursuit of goals. Seize the moment in a quiet spirit. It doesn’t take a loud explosion to bring attention to the fruit of your labor. It is with quietness your strength is demonstrated. The scripture in Isaiah 30:15 says, “in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength”. Remember that it is “not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, says the Lord” (Zechariah 3:6).
A personal assessment may be necessary before seizing the moment; 1 Peter 5:8 tells us to “ Be sober, be vigilant, and cautious at all times; for the enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring in fierce hunger seeking someone to seize upon and devour.” To be effective, your mind, soul, body, and spirit must be united.
The mind should be cleared from the clutter of life. Take time and learn to say NO! Have some of your time free to make your mind available for the leading of God and His creative guidance. The soul should become cleansed with the blood of Jesus, enabling you to walk a life of sanctification. The soul becomes healed by the salve of his healing balm – let the Spirit touch you and wipe away the emotional pain of misunderstanding and bitterness, as well as any physical manifestations. Your body is your temple and needs rest, exercise, and proper nutrition. Stop overtaxing your body with stress, excessive or inadequate physical activity, and intake of junk foods; God can’t use you mightily if you are sick. Take care of your body and prosper in health, even as your soul prospers (3 John: 2). The Spirit provides rejuvenation as you study the Word each day. Declare that you are righteous and no longer bound to darkness.
A balanced life guarantees your ability to be successful, as you seize the moment and accomplish the will of God. Don’t put your confidence in the flesh, but in God (Philippians 3:3). Faith and confidence are synonymous; these words are often used interchangeably, without losing the context. Having faith in God is knowing He will do it – so why do you fret, faint, or give up? The battle is already won! A solid relationship with God provides a sense of inward triumph – so celebrate.
No longer downtrodden, discouraged, drowning in pity, it is time to refocus and seize the moment. Take charge of your life and move into your destiny. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 2:14, “But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumph and through us spreads and makes evident the fragrance of the knowledge of God everywhere.” Step out into the deep and release your faith.
Often sacrifices must be made in order to accomplish dreams, goals, and ultimately the will of God. The requirements, rewards, and sacrifices are connected to your obedience to God’s Word - the Bible. The Lord gives specific instructions on how we are to live and build the kingdom each day. When we stray from the principles of God, we find ourselves in a rut and no longer able to step out into the newness of life.
Walk in obedience and be blessed. In Genesis 12:1-2 we find this example: “Now (in Haran) the Lord said to Abram, go for yourself (for your own advantage) away from your country, from your relatives and your father’s house, to the land that I will show you. And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you (with abundant increase of favors) and make your name famous and distinguished, and you will be a blessing” (one who dispenses good to others).
It is clear that when the Lord gives instructions, you must fulfill all requirements in order to obtain the reward. Sacrifices will have to be made, but if you are going to become victorious, you must become obedient. If God says move today, you must be ready to obey, or you forfeit the reward. Seize the moment – why delay?
For the next few days, mediate on the following verses: “For we have become fellows with Christ and share in all He has for us, if only we hold our first newborn confidence and original assure expectation (in virtue of which we are believers) firm and unshaken to the end” (Hebrews 3:14). “Do not, therefore, fling away your fearless confidence, for it carries a great and glorious compensation of reward.” (Hebrews 10:35). Rejoice, you can achieve your dreams – seize the moment.
